Daddy

The week before last my back was not working. I literately could not move. My husband doesn't go to church very often. Because I couldn't the hubby went with G-man.
As they were walking into the church my son slipped his hand into his daddy's hand, "You always like to be with me, don't you daddy?"
The love between father and son is so beautiful. Gavin mimics his daddy in every opportunity.
This makes mommy very happy.

Forever

After a week of ups and downs my son wanders into the guestroom where we keep the computer. I was Pinteresting and had headphones on blasting some Celtic Thunder. I turned away from the computer took off my headphones....
With his arms outstretched he reached for me. "Mommy, do you want a hug that lasts forever?"
I pull him into my lab and we snuggle. "Yes, I need hugs that last forever."
The best moments come when we least expect them.

ER

Almost made it to year 5 of now trips to the ER.
Gavin is a healthy boy. He has never really been severely sick. He has never really gotten hurt. I have never needed to freak out and go to the ER like I have seen other mothers do.
Today was my day. Today I saw my child in pain. Today I freaked out. I had no answers to the situation my child was in.
Gavin fell + feet off some play equipment on a trip to the playground with Mamama. We headed to the ER where we were told he has a contusion of the spine and pelvis region. Nothing broken.
I just have gained maybe my first gray hair.
We arrived.

Gavin after a ice pop.

Nightmares

I do not know what images float in my son's dreams. Tonight, they were not the type I want in his sweet mind.
Just before 10 pm Gavin whimpered in his sleep. I heard him from the kitchen. By the time I had finished drying my hands and crossed the hall, he was sitting up in bed crying in terror. The only rescuing I can do is hold him until he has calmed back down. I rocked and whispered happy thoughts to him. He cried on. I kissed him and told him he was safe. He cried on. I held him tight and told him it was all ok. He cried on. So we sat, a son in tears and a mommy powerless against his dream. In my mind this went on for hours. Jeff told me it was mere moments, because by the time he came to the room I was wiping away tears. We took a quick potty break since he was already awake. Crawling back into bed he was smiling again and asking if I could scratch his back.
"Mommy, I am so sorry about this." Gavin whispered.
"There is nothing to be sorry about. I am sorry you had a bad dream." I said.
"I don't like bad dreams."
"Me either. Do you remember what it was about?" I asked
"I was stung by bees and wasps and jellyfish and it was hurting me." he said as he snuggled in closer to me.
"I am sorry you were being hurt in your dream."
"It is ok because I am safe now. I want to have a good dream about playing trains and legos." He spoke into the pillow.
Seconds later he was fast asleep.
Sleep well my baby. I pray no more nightmares haunt your sleep.

Boys are gross.

I was reading. Minding my own business. A thunderstorm raged around our house. My son interrupted my peace with this famous saying, "Mommy, smell my finger!" He ran to me with an outstretched finger.
No I did not. I made him go wash his hands.
Boys are so gross.

lunch

So discovered that Gavin no longer likes cooked carrots.
But Marty likes them.....walked by and saw something like this...so snuck back to get photo proof he was sneaking food to Marty.

i

Gavin is being homeschooled some basic information.
During this morning's lesson I had him working on his name. He was muttering to himself and I listened in, "G for Gavin. A for Ant. V for Valley. I for Cyclops....." I had to stop him.
"What? Cyclops doesn't start with an i." I asked.
"i's are like cyclops cause they have one dot and it is an eye and the letter is i." then he giggled at his own joke.
Yep. Proud of my silly son.

I use marbles and dominos as my math manipulatives.

Smelling Aid

Watching some tv with my son while I am making lunch and a hearing aid commercial came on. My son's response. "I need a smelling aid. Sometimes my nose gets clogged up and I can't smell. That would help me."

Hair Cut

I cut Gavin's hair. I had promised him that I would not cut it until April. It is April 2 and off with his hair.
We did a quick photoshoot before the chopping.

The clippers came out....sorry I only have so many hands and they were busy with the hair so no pictures of the process.
He has come to terms with the hair being cut off but he still misses his "big" hair. I promised we would grow it back out again when it gets cold again.

Nocturnal

"Mommy, I want to be nocturnal. I want to play all night." Gavin wishes as he is laying his head down on his pillow. We have finished reading 2 books and our worship.
I kiss his forehead and turn on his music. (ever since he was born I have always had music playing in his room.) I tell him I love him and walk out the door.
I load the dishwasher, that took all of 5 min, and then go and check on my baby.

Yea, he is soooo nocturnal.

Dinner Conversation

It was supper time. I had prepared a breakfast meal of grits and eggs for supper. We sat around our table and were eating. Not much conversation because we had been with each other all day and there was really nothing to speak of. Only the scrap of spoon or fork on the stoneware dishes broke the silence.
"Scuse me."
Now, me thinking that my son was trying to get my attention replied to this attention grabbing comment, "Yes?"
"I was not talking to you, I was talking to my fart."
Daddy almost lost his mouthful of grits all over the table.
I guess we need to tell him that he is not apologizing to his fart but to those around him.

Yes I know some people don't like the word "fart" but yet it is used daily in my house especially between the two males.

Dirt

Playing in the dirt is the best thing next to being at the beach and playing in the sand there. Gavin loves to "cook" and make patties and cakes and pies and drinks and soup. He is so creative when it comes to this. He will get a handful of white sand from our driveway and use that has salt. He uses flower petals as vegetables. He will use vines as pasta and leaves as herbs. And of-course there always needs to be an abundance of water.
Today he made cupcakes. Awhile back I had given him some old pots and pans and an old muffin tin to play with outside. He has discovered that filling up the muffin tin with his creations and then swiftly turning it over on the ground will result in a cupcake shaped mound. I now have many of these around my backyard.
I believe that is a blueberry cupcake he said. We have little berry shaped seeds the Popcorn Tree in our backyard drops and he uses them as well to make his yummy treats.
Then he wanted to pose. This boy sometimes loves the camera and other times he wants nothing to do with it. Today he wanted to put on a show.

I love this boy so much. My heart is full.

Garden Talk

My son has picked up on the love of gardening.
We started seeds in his room and every morning he wanted to peek. And when they were ready to place in our garden he was so excited that little seeds could become yummy food.

We planted on St. Patrick's day this year. See the shamrock on his cheek?
He placed his cucumber and pea plants

While he was working he was talking to them.
"Grow big and strong and make yummy food for my belly."
"It's OK. The sun will keep you warm and I will give you water if you get thirsty."

Yep I have a gardener in the making.

Hitchhiker

Gavin and myself are in the car on the way home from church this past Sabbath. We are stopped at a red light and there is a man on the side of the road with his hitchhiker's thumb extended towards traffic. From the backseat I hear this, "Mommy that man is giving you a thumbs up for driving so safe."

Kisses

IT WAS STATED THIS MORNING!!! I HAVE IT!!! I WILL HOLD HIM TO THIS FOR FOREVER!!!

It started last night. I gave him his goodnight kiss and he wiped it off. I kissed him a second time and again it was wiped off. I kissed a third and final time and once again my kiss ended on the back of his hand as he wiped it off again. Boo. What happened to my little boy who loved my kisses?
Well this morning he came to give me a kiss. I wiped it off. "Mommy don't wipe off my kisses." My response  "You wiped off my kisses."

"Mommy, I won't ever wipe off your kisses. Never. Ever." He wraps his arms around my neck and gives me a kiss on the cheek. I don't wipe it off. I kiss him. He wiped it off.

"I thought you weren't going to wipe it off?!"
"Sorry mommy, I forgot." I kiss him again. He doesn't wipe it off.

Pee Break

Gavin is woken up at 10ish every night to make sure he has a dry night. Usually we forget to wake him but his body knows the routine and he will wake on his own and take care of the bathroom issue. The night before last Jeff went in to take him into the bathroom. Gavin woke up all upset. With his arms flung out in total frustration he cries, "I just made my bed. I messed it up. Now the blankets are all messed up and not pretty." Onward to the bathroom he walked. Thinking he had wet the bed we checked. No, no mess. Just the remains of a body throwing the covers around. So yes. He was so upset that he had messed up his blankets and stuffed animals. Poor boy.

Backyard friends

Gavin has no fear on picking up toads and looking at snakes...or maybe it was a legless Glass Lizard.
