Been awhile

Somedays you just need to break your "no soda" rule and have a Dr.Pepper. So I did. Now I had finished the can and was sitting in my parents rental house when alittle voice piped up. "May I have some Dr. Pepper?" Now me being a parent who doesnt allow her son to drink soda, immediately says, "How do you know this is Dr. Pepper?" I show him the words on the can and ask, "What does this say?" Without hesitation Gavin responds, "For Me."
Three adults cry tears of laughter and Gavin has a look of utmost pleasure on his face because he knows he makes us so happy.

Manly

I have always encouraged my son to be independent. I will show him how to do things without help. How to get a stool to turn on lights, or how to get dressed without help. He is very independent in playing and reading and doing his little chores.
This morning I went into his room where he was quietly playing Legos. I wanted some mommy-son time. So I sat down and started to play Legos as well. This was met with a stare from my son.
"Mommy, I am playing with boy toys. You cant, your a girl."

Who is this little boy? lol.

Nite time potty

We have been done wearing pull-ups for weeks now. And Gavin is doing so great about it. Gavin also doesnt wear them at night. About 1030 every night I gently get him out of bed and go potty. Usually he only half way wakes up and doesnt say or do much. For the past two nights he has been talking in his half sleep. Sunday night he told me "Froggies dance loud." I have no idea what that means. And last night when I picked him up he told me, " I dont wanna throw the ball. I wanna sing." those are the only words he said.

Blue Angels

We live in Pensacola, FL, the home of the Blue Angels. Gavin loves going to the museum. Well, we live a few miles away from the base. Every couple of days or so we get our own air-show if the weather is clear. Every time a jet flies over the house Gavin runs outside and jumps up and down yelling. "Mommy its the Blue Angels." It doesn't matter to him if its a cargo plane or it really is the Blue Angels he gets all excited and runs around watching. Even I get excited to see the fighter planes fly over. Spending so many summers down here the aircraft really have a special place in my heart.

Rough day.

There are somedays that happen when you have a 2 year old. I love my son with ever inch of my being but there are somedays I dont want anything to do with him. It pains me to say it but its true. Today was one of them.

The day started out early. Gavin decided that 5:30am was a perfect time to wake up and play. Ugggg. We (meaning I was laying on his bed and he was playing on the floor) spent time quietly playing in his room until the sun came up an hour later. We had a breakfast of oatmeal (that ended up mostly on the floor and the table cause it makes a great playdough when mommy has her back turned for 5 min to make herself some coffee).
After Gavin cleaned it up (and mommy then recleaned the mess of a clean up job Gavin did) we got dressed and watched an episode of Curious George so mommy could take a shower to get rid of the oatmeal caked in her hair.
We played trains and cars and drew and it was only 8 am.
Gavin has become very independent in the bathroom. He has two stools in his bathroom, one for the lights and one to step up to the toilet. (the stool for the lights gets moved when he has to wash his hands.) Usually I trail behind him when his is making his mad dash to the bathroom to answer Mother Nature. Well, the deed done and hands washed we left the room. I return to the living room thinking my wonderful son had followed me. No. I was wrong. I hear a sound that makes me cringe. Splash, Flush, Toilet refusing load and then overflow. This happened in the matter of seconds. I knew what to expect as I walk back into my ugly pink bathroom. My wonderful, sweet son has dropped a whole full roll of toilet paper into the toilet, then tried to flush it, the toilet said, "NEVER!!!" and my floor was covered in a sea of toilet water and Gavin jumping in the puddle laughing "Mommy I did it!"
Thank God I was givin a wonderful husband. He quickly came and removed my toilet water soaked son before I could scream. After fishing out the toilet paper (mind you its the strong Charmin stuff so its huge when its dry so imagine when its water logged) and mopping up the water and having to Pinesol the floor, I walk into the bedroom where my husband has dried and re-dressed my son. Gavin sits. A 2 min time-out.
Jefferson sends me out of the house to really calm down. Tells me to relax. I went to the pier and read a full book. I let the sun soak up all the bad feelings inside me and I was ready to go home. I decided to spend this toddler free time to go grocery shopping.
When I got home we unloaded the bags and put everthing away.
Its amazing how much Gavin misses me even when I am gone just a few  hours. He hugs and he kisses and he climbs all over me. I sat on the couch holding my son and asking him to forgive me for my little over reacation and he just kisses my cheek and tells me he loves me.
Well the day is not over yet. I had skipped lunch and so we all had an early supper cause I was starving and both my men will pretty much eat whenever there is food out. We did the evening routine alittle diffrent by eating first then bath then brushing of the teeth. While in the bathroom there was this horriable smell. I knew it couldnt be the floor. I had just mopped it this morning. But where was it coming from. Not in the closet, not the floor, not the toilet, not the tub, not in the sink...that only left the trash can. I looked and it had an empty wal-mart bag in it as a liner. Where was that smell? Well I am smart. I have a college degree. I picked up the wal-mart bag. Underneth the bag was a gift left by my son. I guess sometime that day when I was not home or even if I was home my son had decided to leave the toilet alone and had used the trash can instead. Not just #1 but yes my friends the good old #2.  ( We had told him he cant play with the toilet).
Due to this Gavin got to spend extra time with his daddy watching "WipeOut" while mommy gets the trash can.
Finally 8pm rolled around and prayers were said and mommy kissed him goodnight.
What a day.

Boy

Just a quick post before bed....

Tonight after Gavin's bath, he is running around in only socks and a pull up. He runs into the room where Aunt Becky, daddy and mommy are sitting, grabs his pull up and takes a peek inside. "I'm a BOY!" he happily yells.

Sibling

Today I was reading a book about sharing to Gavin. A little boy shared with is sister, mom, dad, friend and even his pet. When the story was all done Gavin jumped up and ran from the room to where his daddy was working on homework. "Daddy I want a sister."
Jeff now blames me for putting ideas in Gavin's head.

Singing

I sing to my son all the time.
My son sings to me all the time.
We sing together all the time.

Today I was cleaning up the kitchen and washing the dishes. The only way I have found to have some enjoyment in doing this most hated chore is to rock out to my music. Usually Gavin is in playing with his train or reading or doing one of the many things that distracts him. Anyway, I was rocking out with my headphones on and singing to the music when I hear..."Mommy....Mommy?" I turn and bend down to his level. A little hand is placed on my cheek and with all the seriousness he could muster "Mommy dont do that."

I no longer can sing in my kitchen while I do dishes without my little boy running in the room yelling, "mommy dont sing!"

spent the day outside today

You would think that because I didnt have a job yet I would have time to post more often.
Anyway...
This weekend we spent hours outside enjoying the Florida sun and being a little family.
We ran around.
We played basketball.
We laid on the grass looking up at the cloudless sky. While we layed there Gavin made me shed happy tears by saying, "Mommy you make me happy."
How does a two year old know how to say that? How did he know saying that would make all my worries and sadness go away?

To end...here is a little song to make your day.

update

Living in Florida is good for a growing little boy. He spends hours outside playing in the dirt, trees and chasing neighborhood cats around.
Watching him grow is a wonderful thing.

"I know" is a popular saying from my 2 year old.
"Go to the beach" is said almost everyday.

Aunt Becky is coming to visit in a few weeks and when I told Gavin he got all excited and jumped around. "Aunt Becky watch fish movie with me?" ( this is because when we were at Aunt Becky's back in July or August he watched Finding Nemo and loved it.

It seems that every time we are in Wally World they have the movie Walli going in the electronic section. "I love that robot."

In Sabbath School we are learning about Zaccheus and Gavin has the whole song learned and almost has all the movements perfect.

He is my growing little boy.

photos

There is a photo album in our living room that has the first week or so of Gavin's life in it. Gavin loves it. Everyday he will go and sit down, look at each picture and tell who is in each photo.
"Thats Papa, Mommy, Daddy, Mamama, Daadoo."

so long

It has been awhile since I have had the time to log on and update. Alot in our lives has changed.
We have left New England and have moved to Florida. We packed up as much as could fit into a Jetta and a caddy. We spent many hours in a car and spent one night in a hotel and then we were in Pensacola before sun down the next day.
Gavin has said alot of sweet and funny things.....here is just the short list....

Seeing Christmas lights. "Its Christmas there."
While sitting on his little potty he directs his penis while he pees. "Mommy I hold my penis and peepee."
On the drive down..."Mommy I go to the beach?"
I picked up Gavin and walked past a mirror. "Mommy I'm tall."
"ssshhhhhh Suzie." "down Suzie" "Come'er Gus" were heard alot when my brother and his girlfriend brought their two dogs (Suzie who is taller than Gavin and Gus who came only to Gavin's chest.) to the house for our Christmas.
"No mommy. I want Uncle Lisa to give me a bath" when it was bath time. (Uncle Lisa is Aunt Felisha)
While doing a pee pee dance. "I have pee pee in my penis."
"I'm making tracks." as he plays with his brand new awesome wooden train set from Grandpa George.
and to end the short list today ....
I was sitting on the couch tired and ready for bed by 7pm and Gavin gets up from playing with his bowling set he got from Uncle Damien, comes over and give me a hug and says, "I love you."
